Shamon Ehiemua has one of the top 200m times in the state with his 21.85. He's also on Fort Bend Marshalls 4x100m and 4x200m teams. He's looking to run an even faster 200m time this weekend and help his 4x100m team to go sub 41 for the second weekend in a row. See what else he had to say about the season and upcoming Victor Lopez Classic below!
Texas MileSplit: Which races will you be competing in this weekend? What event are you most excited for at this upcoming meet and why?
Shamon Ehiemua: This weekend I will be competing in the 4x100m relay and the 200m dash. I haven't gotten many 200's under my belt this season but I like where I am and I feel like I could bust a really good time, so that's probably what I'm most excited about.
Texas MileSplit: What will it be like having the chance to face off against more great competition this week? This will be your team's second big meet in a row how have you guys been keeping healthy and fit to perform your best?
Shamon Ehiemua: How we compete is a product of how we work, and it's exciting when we get to display it upon other teams, especially those who are well set athletically. As far as keeping healthy, the workouts have been conducive to keeping sharp and in top shape without having the life run out of us lol.
Texas MileSplit: How has training been leading up to this meet/point in the season? What are things you are looking to focus on more in your races as we get closer to championship season?
Shamon Ehiemua: As far as training goes, we've started to speed things up a bit, so watch out lol. We've also started getting more specific and detailed on my races. When it comes to my specialized event, I'm really just focusing on getting stronger and maintaining sprint form and efficiency throughout the entire race.
Texas MileSplit: What's it been like running on some of the fastest relay teams in the country? What our your teams goals in the relays this weekend?
Shamon Ehiemua: Having a nationally ranked team and being able to practice with those guys every day is truly a blessing that I very much so grateful for. We won't be loading up our 4x2 this weekend, but for the 4x1, we're hoping to dip below 41 again.
Texas MileSplit: What are your personal goals for this weekend? How will hitting these goals help you to hit your big goals at the end of the year?
Shamon Ehiemua: This weekend I'm hoping to go 21.0 or high 20. in the 200. This will give me an idea of where I am as of now and where I should set my goals at for later in the season.
