Salute to Seniors: Trevor Heinz

Athlete: Trevor Heinz

School: Dripping Springs

1. What was your most memorable race/moment?

My most memorable race would have to be my team's third place finish at Texas relays in the 4X800. We kept gaining ground on the other teams and I out kicked a guy for third place. It would have to be my favorite race though because of the team aspect and getting to celebrate with my friends.

2. Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?

The best person I ever raced would probably be Sam Worley.... Don't think I have to explain why and my most competition would have to be Darren Medrano and Jaqwae Ellison my junior year. They were both better than me but I always tried to keep up with them.

3. What was your greatest accomplishment?

My biggest accomplishment would have to be making State in XC and track. I was one spot away from XC state as a junior and I trained my butt off all summer to thankfully make it senior year.

4. If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

If could restart I would lead more races as a junior, I was scared to lead because I thought I would burn out but all senior year I lead as many races as I could and it definitely helped.

5. What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

I had. Stress fracture sophomore year which led to me running poorly all track season. Another thing that's been bothering me since junior year are blisters. I always get blisters on hot days and that's prevented me from running well. I dropped out of the regional mile because my feet were beginning to blister and I still had our 4x4.

6. What will you miss the most?

My coaches and my teammates that I've gotten so much closer to over the years.

7. What advice would you give to younger athletes?

Train hard but train smart and don't be afraid to lead because only you know what you're capable of.

8. What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?

I give soooooo much credit to Coach Parks (who is one of the 13 Brooks Inspiring coaches of the year) for my accomplishments. She pushed me and believed in my abilities all four years. She is such a selfless caring person and I wouldn't have asked for a better coach.

9. What are your college plans?

I will be attending The University of Texas to major in sports media/broadcasting. I also will attempt to walk on to the UT XC/Track team and I don't make it I'll be running club for a year and trying again.

10. Who would you like to say 'thank you' to?

My parents, Coach Parks, Coach Reid and Coach Foster, and all my teammates

11. Is there anything else you'd like to add?

Lychee Lychee Lychee! And Hook em

12. What was the funniest thing that happened during your running career?

A group of my teammates and I created a rap battle my sophomore year and every team in our district joined in.
