Marcus I Meet Preview: The First BIG Meet of The Texas XC Season!

Boys Elite Race

Reed Brown coming across the levee last year to finish 2nd
Who:
Teams:
When: Saturday, September 3rd
Why: This race is going to be one for the ages! With many teams coming in from across the state as well as other states we should see quite the showdown. In the individual race, the guy to watch is going to be Southlake's Reed Brown. Last year he finished 2nd in this race only behind Carter Blunt. With Blunt graduated and running at UCLA this fall Brown has an opening to take the win. Last year Blunt dropped a 15 flat on the old course last year. With temperatures in the high 60's low 70's we can expect to see the same or better this year from Brown. If it's in Brown's game plan to run hard and take the win from the gun, he could set the new course record below 15 minutes from 2011 could be in jeopardy. Although Brown is the most promising runner to take the win there's a solid field of individuals in this race. One guy coming all the way down from Oklahoma who could challenge Brown is Jenks's Matthew Young. Young only holds a 5K XC PR of 15:24.87 but challenged Brown at the Texas Distance Festival last spring when he ran 14:50.10 to finish 3rd. He then bettered his 5K time later in the season at NBNO when he ran 14:45.25 to take 4th. Young will be a serious competitor if he's looking to get out and push the pace. Also in the mix will be Amarillo Tascosa's Wes Mcphail and Briggs Wittlake. The pair race together in almost every race and will look to feed off that energy during the run. In the mix with them will be a bunch of other runners who have all run in the 15:20's- 15:30's.

On the team side of things, this race will have major implications. It's the first real battle between many of the top area Dallas teams. The Southlake guys will be looking to claim their 2nd win in a row after dusting the competition at last weekend's Greenhill Luke's Locker Relays. They took the win last year scoring 48 points. Also in the mix will be Jenks from OK, lead by Matthew Young as well as well Plano West, Flower Mound and  Allen.
