Race Report By: Abby Riordan
Happy Race Day!! We met up early at 4:45 a.m. to load the bus and leave by 5:00 and head for Bob Jones Park for the SouthlakeInvitational. We arrived at the course at about 6, but we had to wait on the bus for a while due to weather delays, but we took a small nap so we were ready to go. When we could finally get off the bus, JV began to walk the course and varsity got ready to warm-up. We started warming up the course at about 8:15 and then stretched and strided to prepare for the race. The weather actually ended up being perfect for us. When the gun went off, I made sure to get out hard, but under control. I just tried to stay with the lead pack for as long as I could until the race started to spread out on the second loop. Then, going around the baseball fields towards the end, I tried to go as hard as I could because that is what I have been practicing. I ended up getting third overall with an 18:30 and I was one second slower than last year which wasn't bad because of the muddy conditions. Also, Aaliya Fazel on my team was 9th this week, which was really good. Our varsity girls finished out 2nd, which was good, but we know we still have much more to improve on. Shout out to our JV girls who won with our top 6 in the top 15 finishes. Overall this meet went really well and it puts us one step closer to the state meet.
