Abby Riordan Lovejoy Race Report: Battling The Hills

Waking up this week I could not be more excited to race, after not racing last week. We met at Hebron at 5:00 for our meeting, and from there we headed straight to the course in McKinney for the Lovejoy meet. I was also really excited to race this week because I really like this course. We began walking the first mile of the course and then jogged the last two for warm up. We then went to the line to get in any stretches or other warm up before the start. When the gun went off, I tried to get out hard and in the best position that I could. I stayed with the lead pack for about a mile then the top two began to separate from the rest of the pack. I worked hard though on the hills to catch back up to the girl in second and was able to move up in the last 800. I finished 2^nd with a time of 18:42, I thought I competed well, but I still have work to do to get my time down. As a team, in the Elite Girls division, we got 5^th which we weren't too happy about because we knew we could do better than that. Aaliya Fazel on my team also finished in the top ten, getting 6^th at 18:51. On the boy's side, Conner Miller and Adam Dayani finished number 2 & 3 in their race also getting fifth as a team. I was also really proud of our top JV girls who competed in the Varsity girl's division and still placing 2^nd against other varsity teams. Next, our JV girls were 6^thand JV guys were fourth. Overall, the morning was good, but we have a lot to work on.
