GAME OF THROWS

Three of the Nations top discus throwers battle it out at the state meet (Left - Gabe Oladipo, Center - Caden McDonald, Right - Adrian Piperi)

This is Texas' Game of Throws, but there is no Kingdom. There are no Kings and queens, no knights and renegades, liars and honest men, and no lords. There is definitely no struggle for the Iron Throne.

However, there are All-Americans, All-Staters, national elite throwers, and some all out Texas Studs. There is also Texas supremecy and a battle for Texas State titles on the line.

Last season, Texas throwers were some of the best in the nation. The top distances in both the Shot Put and Discus were unusually high in quality and quantity. In the Shot Put, there were seven Texas boys in the top 55 throwers in the Nation including the #2 Shot Putter in the US. All of these guys topped the 60 foot mark by far. Some years, a 61 foot toss will win you the state title, but not these days in Texas. In the Discus, the Texas title will also include the US' best. Last season, Texas had the US #2 and #5 guy with both being over 200 feet for the season and six of the top 50. The last several years, in Texas, the throws have been off the charts, especially last year. This year, several of last year's top contestants return and should provide some explosive performances in the throws.
