Cancelled: The Woodlands Friday Night Lights

The Woodlands' 2017 Friday Night Lights cross country meet has been cancelled. Meet directors made the tough decision Thursday afternoon to forgo the meet amid weather concerns in the Houston area. Hurricane Harvey is threatening to bring storm surges and reports of possibly 20 inches of rain to the gulf coast and the Houston metropolitan area. Harvey recently reached hurricane status and is expected to make landfall Friday night or early Saturday morning along the Texas Gulf Coast. Hurricane season is each year from June 1 - November 30.

Friday Night Lights is hosted annually by The Woodlands High School on the last weekend in August, this year falling on tomorrow August 25, 2017. As of right now, there is no expectation to reschedule the meet during the 2017 season.

If you remember, last spring, there were two tragic auto accidents involving Texas high school teams as they returned home from track meets. In those accidents, lives were lost. Best wishes of safety go out to all athletes, coaches, and parents when traveling to and from meets across the state this weekend and throughout the entire season.
