Talented Freshmen Face Championship Season Learning Curve

Girls Team Impacts

Cinco Ranch freshman HEIDI NIELSON is very important to her team's success. Nielson is currently the team's #1 runner. She joins a Cinco Ranch team that is no stranger to the UIL state meet, but if they want to continue their state meet streak, Nielson will have to continue her hot running. The season got off to a very untraditional start for Cinco Ranch and Nielson with the effects that Hurricane Harvey had on their community and their season. Without many races on the season to assist Neilson on the high school varsity running stage, she has shown the composure and talent worthy to expect her to continue to lead if she can deal with the fact that either you do or you don't and if you don't the season will be over. Since, we are just getting a taste of how good Neilson is, it would be a shame for it to end too soon.

Northwest Nelson is looking to get their squad back to the state meet and if they are to do so, they will be have to ride the backs of their young newcomers. Freshmen Kaitlyn Rodysill and Katie Clark will have a big hand in making that happen. Rodysill is a legitimate stud. She is hovering around he 18:00 mark with her 18:04 PR. Clark is another young and fast runner as her running has placed her in the Nelson's top seven. Nelson is in the ever tough District 5-6A with the likes of Southlake Carroll, Marcus, and Flower Mound and then they are also in the "Region of Doom". If they are to qualify for state, it will be anything but easy, one thing is for sure, it won't happen without their talented freshmen.

Harli Woolsey of Burleson Centennial has been a spark and a key to Centennial's awesome season. However, the success of the season is always minimal if it doesn't lead to post/championship season success and that is exactly what Centennial would like. Woolsey's addition has helped her team stay at the top of the 5A rankings all season long. Woolsey will be challenged to see if she can step up to the championship season level in her first varsity season to help her team. The District 9-5A meet will be the first challenge for Centennial and their freshman star Woolsey.

Rachel Sutliff is another 5A freshman looking to make an impact on her team's championship season success. Sutliff hopes to help her Grapevine team advance back to the UIL 5A state meet and get a trophy. She has been running well since the start of the season and competing well in big time meets. Her 18:17 PR is a good indication that she has made a good jump to the 5K distance. The learning curve will be put to the test beginning in the District 8-5A meet.

Houston Memorial freshman Mary Kate Skrabanek is one the talented young runners on the Memorial team that has hopes to mature and be a force in the upcoming years. However, there is a chance things can happen sooner than later and for that to happen, Skrabanek will have to come through. As the #2-3 runner on the team, her mid 18 minute 5Ks are valuable to the rest of Memorial's season. If they are to advance, the youngster will have to provide her team with big punch in district, but especially the Region 2-6A race.

Pay attention Coppell, because of you don't you might regret it. Coppell will look to make some noise of their own in Region 2-6A. If they are to do so, it'll be thanks to the contribution of their young runners. Freshmen, Natalie Flemming, Chloe Hassman, and Morgan Colon will look to make some big breakthroughs in the next coming weeks. These freshmen have been quietly putting in work and are quite the cornerstone for a bright future, but why wait. If these young ladies can stay composed in the next two big time meets, Coppell could be in Round Rock.

Flower Mound freshman Allie Lyda is a big reason they could in for upsetting some of the favorites in the District 6-5A and Region 1-6A races. The Flower Mound girls are having a great season and Lyda is one of the reasons for that. She is providing great support to the already young runners and the upperclassmen that were on the roster. Don't be surprised if Flower Mound places at the state meet and Lyda's performances will help in doing so.

Katy Tompkins is definitely another team to watch out for. They return some very quality sophomore an senior runners, but boy have they ever been blessed with some good freshmen. Tompkins is considered one of the favorites in Region 3-6A and that is due to their freshmen Lauren Titus and Hayden Gold. When you add youngsters who are running low 19s to the upperclassman punch that Tompkins has then watch out. If these young ladies can show the composure to make it through a tough district and the Region 3-6A meet then watch out for Tompkins.
