This week, the Texas Flo50 team results came out and the only boys team champion 3A has known for the last seven years - Luling was not in them. Were they snubbed?
Perhaps the only ones in the state not in an uproar about it were the seven guys from Luling. What was their response? Nothing, they just went out at their district meet and ran. That is exactly what their job is to do - run. In fact, that's what they've been trained to do. They've been trained to run to their best and nothing more.
Luling doesn't chase the championships, they chase excellence and they made their statement to the perceived snub by demonstrating their excellence.
The District 27-3A meet was not only excellent but it was as close to perfection as it could get without being so. The barrage of Luling jerseys came across the line early and it was over quick as they finished 1-6 and the #7 guy finished eighth. They ran for a perfect score of 15 and just missed taking first through seventh places.
Their #1 guy Buster Roberts won his third straight district title in 15:42, to lead the team. Roberts crossed the line in 15:42, for a SB and was smooth sailing for an athlete of his level, but the two and three runners both crossed the line within four seconds. Edwin Zamudio and Leonardo Reyna finished in 15:43 and 15:46 and then the 3-6 guys all came in within eight seconds of each other.
