SPC Champ Crayton Carozza, Sets Early Season US#1 800m With 1:54.25

Crayton Carrozza competes at the 2017 TTFCA Meet of Champions

Track season is finally underway, and that means a whole new group of shining faces are taking over the rankings. Crayton Carrozza of Austin St. Stevens High School set a new US#1 in the 800m outdoors as well as a new PR this past weekend at the St. Andrews Duo Meet.

Coming into the meet this weekend, Crayton was just looking to "get out fast and see how well (he) could hold pace." In his 800m race, he beat the second place finisher, by over 10 seconds. Crayton's time was also almost 3 seconds faster than his previous PR from last season.

During this school year already, Crayton won the SPC Cross Country Championships to cap off his strongest cross country season. This year he won every race that he competed in. Austin St. Stephens also won the SPC State Championship last year and they are looking to defend their title. This puts a lot of pressure on the athletes to win the state title again.

Crayton's parent did not allow him to run competitively until he was in high school, which makes the fact that he holds the US#1 even more impressive. He also plays basketball and swims for his school. On this swim team, he will be competing at state this weekend.

Crayton is a naturally born athlete and will be a name you will see a lot this season!
