The year was 2017 and Reed Brown was breaking 4 minutes for a mile, Sam Worley was rubbing elbows with UT legend and Hoka One One athlete Leo Manzano at Texas Relays, and London Culbreath was the fastest freshman in the country (a full 21.63 seconds ahead of NY prodigy Katelyn Tuohy in the 3200 mind you). How could one top a season like that?
Just when we thought it was impossible, Freshman Bailey Goggans practically screamed "Hold my non brand specific sports drink!" and ran a 2:11 in her first outdoor meet of the season. As if that wasn't impressive enough, this is the second best freshman mark in TX since 2014 edging out other prodigious talents such as Manvel's Julia Heymach (2:14.70) and London Culbreath (2:12.93) while falling just three tenths of a second short of Gracie Morris (2:11.33).
