FW Christian's Carter Cheeseman Hits Track Again With 4:12.2

Carter Cheeseman (#13) competes at Festival of Miles in St. Louis, Missouri

Last year, at this same meet, we saw Southlake Carroll senior Reed Brown finally crack the 4:00 mile barrier.

This year, it was Carter Cheeseman who challenged the field at the Festival of Miles in Saint Louis, Missouri.

The Championship events at the Festival of Miles are known for attracting some of the top talent nationally to compete. The fields have been consistently loaded and this year's race was no exception to that.

The packed field was full of capable runners who have all run fast times. The winning time was a 4:07 from Mason Gatewood (NY). Cheeseman's finish was in 4:12.20 and good for seventh place in the jam packed race that produced eight guys 4:15 and under and every runner at 4:21 and under.

Cheeseman was competing in his first competitive race since his TAPPS state championship meet where he won both the 1600m and the 3200m along with running a leg on the 4x400 relay.

The Fort Worth Christian junior has shown that he will not be limited to his conference or state. Since arriving to Texas, over the past 10-11 months Cheeseman has raced on multiple out of state meets and against some of the biggest and best national level talent.

With too many meets to name, the most notable race this year for him was the Texas Distance Festival. Cheeseman was able to race in a national level race that was minimal travel for him. Ironically, that is the one where he won the Elite 5K race against not only Texas' best distance runners but also over several other top nationally ranked distance runners.

Next season will be Cheeseman's second in Texas and last high school season overall. With the ability and the mindset he has displayed, it is only reasonable to expect him to do more outstanding things. Don't be surprised to see him on the winning end of some more of those national level meets.
