Boys Preseason All-State Cross Country 1st Team

Rank: #3

Name: Michael Abeyta

School: El Paso Hanks

Graduation Year: 2020

Abeyta is one of Texas' outstanding members of the boys 2020 class. He began his 2017 cross country season coming off of his sixth place finish at the UIL 5A state championships his freshman year. He started the year off with a win at the competitive Rudy Alvarez Invitational out in west Texas.

He continued to improve and prepare for the state meet. It was the UIL 5A - Region 1 meet where we saw what he was finally ready to do when he went 14:44.80 for second place. He followed that up with another impressive 15:00.18 at state for another close runner-up finish. He gave it a shot at the Foot Locker South Regional as he finished 13th with a 15:25 just outside of the top ten for a Foot Locker South Finals appearance.

That didn't stop Abeyta as he came back for the track season on fire as he ran indoor races of 1:57.65 in the 800m and 4:25.34 in the 1 mile at the Texas Tech Under Armour High School Classic. He continued running fast all track season long as he would run PRs of 52.12, 1:53.35, 4:16.40, and 9:13.89. Abeyta not only runs out of his mind, but he is out of his mind. The dude actually thought running the 800, 1600m, and 3200m at the state meet in 5A was a good idea. Well, I guess it was because he still ran elite times of 1:53.38, 4:16.53, and 9:15.50 for the state title in the 800 and runner-up finishes in the other two.

The UIL 5A race will be one of the best state meets nationally and that will be partly because of Abeyta. The dude is electric and will run for a state championship and national championship this year!
