This meet belonged to Heidi Nielson who won her second straight meet of the season to back up her Friday Night Lights (FNL) win. She dropped a 18:15 to win by over 15 seconds as she looked to be on cruise control. On the boys side, Cole Lindhorst opened up his season with a win, but it wasn't without drama. Lindhorst would get a major challenge from the Cinco Ranch duo of Alan Elbanna and Richard Saenz. Lindhorst and Elbanna duked it out all of the way to the line as they were only separated by a couple tenths of a second 15:44.50 to 15:44.84. Saenz followed up his FNL runner-up performance with a 15:48 effort.
Team wise, the preseason #2 team Houston Stratford won the girls race as they topped a good Tompkins team. The Tompkins boys followed up their good FNL team performance to beat several district and regional foes.
