3 Take Aways From SPC State Meet

SPC Has Two Of The Best Boys Teams In The State

After having all of the results in as each of the four high school conferences in Texas are officially concluded,  it is clear who the top teams in the state are by now.

Before the season began, Austin St Stephens was no doubt going to be one of the best teams in the state this year. But, then word came down that their predicted number one runner Crayton Carrozza would not be allowed to compete for the team in the SPC. From that point, the team had several questions surrounding how much that would affect them.

Clearly, losing one of the best runners in the nation, understandably they wouldn't be as good collectively. However, yesterday, they showed they are still pretty darn good. In fact, they were better than good. Their performances now rank them as the 21st best team in average by a Texas boys team.

They came through with a 16:15 team average yesterday. That enabled them to come away with their second consecutive SPC team title putting to rest whether they needed Carrozza to compete or not.

They were led by their season long #1 runner Travis Dowd who also captured the individual championship.

Dallas St. Marks crept into the top 25 teams early in the season. They have had a big 2018 season and have proven to be one of the top teams in Texas. Their top two runners are just as good as many UIL teams. Senior Seth Weprin and junior Pablo Arroyo didn't have the days they may have liked yesterday, but they still proved to be tough and talented runners as they led their squad to a runner-up finish.
