The Woodlands boys team is the two time defending UIL 6A boys team state champion. One of the many reasons the team captured those crowns is due to their 'Throws Crew.'
Seniors Patrick Piperi and Sean Stavinoha are both highly ranked in both throws. Piper is currently the No.1 ranked shot putter and Stavinoha is the No. 1 discus thrower in Texas.
On the girls side, junior Nya Harmon has been equally impressive. She finished second in the discus at the UIL 6A state meet as a freshman. Last year, she came back and won state in the same event, and then added a second-place finish in the shot put.
This past weekend, we caught up with The Woodlands' throws coach, Gary Madore, and his top three throwers as they had a shake out workout just two days after their Area meet championships.
They will compete at the Region 2-6A Track and Field Championships, on April 26-27, in Waco, Texas.
The Texas UIL State Championships are LIVE on MileSplit and FloTrack from May 10-11. Don't miss it!
