2019 UIL Team State Champions And How They Won

6A

Girls

No other team in history dominated like the DeSoto girls did at the 2019 UIL 6A state meet. Coach Villers' squad methodically moved through the season showing the state what they were capable of doing  when May rolled around.

They completely controlled the narrative from just about the start of the running events to the end of the meet. They also set  State and National Records in the 4x100 relay with their win in 44.24 performance. From there, they scored in every running event from the 100m all of the way up to the 400m, all three relays, and in two field events totaling 121 points beating the second place team by 73 points.

Not only was this a dominating singular meet performance, but it also marks a four year dominance as it was the fourth consecutive team state championship for the DeSoto Lady Eagles.

Boys

Everything didn't go as Klein Forest would have liked, but even that couldn't stop them from winning a state title. Coach Smith's squad came through with a state title in just his second year at the lead.

This state title was won the same way many classic Roman and Greek Mythology wars were won. With a combination of speed and strength and thunder and lightening, Klein Forest earned the 2019 UIL 6A Boys team state title.

The strength and lightening came from the power of junior thrower Maurice Westmoreland who perhaps was the difference maker between winning and placing second. With his fourth place in the Discus (174-0) and fifth place in the Shot Put (59-4.5), he contributed six total team points.

The Eagles' speed and lightening was through the baton passing of their three relays that tallied 36 points including two silver medals to help carry them to the top of the award stand.
