Boerne Champion sophomore Anastacia Gonzales ran 2:10.04 for the top girls outdoor 800m
They say April showers brings May flowers. So, what does February bring for March?
Now that the calendar has officially turned to March, the month of February gave one more gift before the calendar changed. That was some new outdoor season leading marks.
The last weekend in February coincided with the same weekend the weather finally warmed up and that seemed to be exactly what the state needed to see the marks continue to improve.
This past weekend, we saw 10 events get new state leading marks on the girls side of the Leaderboards.

With top performances good enough to win state meets later in the spring at just about 90% of the states, we have listed the 10 leading marks performed this weekend.
Jada Campos - 100m
Katy sophomore Jada Campos isn't new to fast times, but her 11.68 would be an all-time best for the young sprinter. This is her second sub 12.00 race of the season.
Even though, the race was probably Illegally wind aided, Campos is off to a great year. She competed well throughout the short indoor season, running impressively in the 60m (7.60) and 200m (24.76) for two PRs.
Anastacia Gonzales - 800m
Boerne Champion sophomore Anastacia Gonzales is an athlete with a lot of range. She has dabbled in every event from the 200m to the 5K during the cross country season. This year, she has been focusing on her primary event, the 800m.
Gonzlaes has progressively improved with each race this year. She started off with a 2:14.07 PR and then 2:13.69, and officially lowering her best down to a 2:10.04 over the weekend.
As a freshmen last year, Gonzales ran a 57.30 in the 400m and eventually a 2:15.77 800m PR eventually leading to a fourth place finish at the UIL 5A state meet.
Brynn Brown - 1600m and 3200m
Denton Guyer junior star Brynn Brown made quite a statement at the Coppell Invitational with her two runs. Brown blew up last season with her out of sight marks going 4:48.37 in the 1600m for a PR and state title as well as a 10:09.91 for a PR, state title, and a UIL Texas state record.
This weekend, Brown showed she is in as good form now as she was last May. Brown went 4:50.77 for her second fastest time ever and then 9:58.58 for a PR and faster than her state record. Keep an eye on Brown as she will have plenty of time to get faster and faster.
Victoria Mathews - 300H
Fort Bend Travis senior Victoria Mathews had to battle competition and the wind. She came out on top of both. The Penn State signee dropped a SB 42.92 to take the state lead in the 300H.
Mathews placed third in both the last two seasons at the UIL 6A state meet in the event. She looks primed to make a run at the state title this upcoming May.
Fort Bend Marshall - 4x200 Relay
The Lady Buffalos had a good run at things last year in the relays and in several individual events. Here they are back at it again.
Over the weekend, they ran to the top of the state marks with their 1:38.83 at the Stafford Spartan Relays, just .01 ahead of Katy Seven Lakes.

Tumi Onaleye - Triple Jump
Tumi Onaleye took the triple jump lead with a 39-10 jump this weekend at the Katy ISD Bubba Fife Relays. Onaleye got her second 39 footer of the season.
After a seventh place finish at the UIL 6A state meet, Onaleye has a chance of competing for a state title this year and 39-10 is a good start.
Sky Schuller - Pole Vault
Coppell freshman Skyler Schuller had a good indoor season and now she is at the top of the state for the outdoor pole vault.
Schuller proved that she has the versatility and ability in several events to compete with anyone in the state in all of them. Her 13-0 jump this weekend not only ranks the freshman at the top of the state, but also one of top national vaulters.
Kiana Lowery - Discus
Klein Cain senior Kiana Lowery has been racking up the wins in the discus all season long. Now, her season has led her to a Texas number one spot.
This weekend, she tossed a 154-4 at the Katy ISD bubba Fife Relays to add her third win of the year. Last year, Lowery was third in the shot put at the UIL 6A state meet, but she didn't medal in the discus as she finished fourth.
Can she continue her winning streak all of the way until May and get a medal this year -- a gold?
Clear Falls - Sprint Medley Relay
Clear Falls already held the top spot in the 4x400 Relay heading into the weekend. Now, they have the fastest SMR time in Texas with their 4:06.02. They narrowly beat out Prosper who also ran a fast time with their 4:06.69 this weekend.
Clear Falls' strength are in the key events of the SMR. They have a superb sprinter and a strong 400m runner amongst the state leaders and more in the 800m.
