The Region 3-6A girls race was as closer than anyone could have guessed

Even if the cross country season was unaffected by restrictions on the number of state qualifiers, there would still have been at least one deserving 6A girls team that did not qualify for state this year. Katy Cinco Ranch's 3-5 runners were the fastest 3-5 trio on the day, and they have one of the fastest top two combos in the nation, meaning that they were clear winners of the Region 3 title. But only nine points separated the four teams coming in behind them, leading to heartbreak despite the excellent team performances, for Houston Stratford and Katy.

The 2nd-5th-place teams had speed rating averages over 100: there is no reason to be disappointed by the actual performances. The race will be fascinating to watch in the coming days; hopefully we'll be treated to some quality footage that can detail the struggle that was going on between those narrowly-separated teams.
