Khristian Torres of Fredericksburg took the  lead  early on in the race only tto be overtook by Edwin Gomez . Gomez, who ran the 3,200m earlier in the day that resulted in a runner-up finish was in the last place through 200m. Gomez quickly adjusted and corrected his positioning by the 400m mark, coming through with a 57,90 split.

He would then go on to open up a 15m lead  on the back stretch and his San Elizario teammate Christopher Moreno made moves to get into the second position. The pack would form and thicken with 100m remaining where Moreno found himself having to fight the entire field for position. He proved to have the best kick as he separated and went on to make up ground on Gomez.

Gomez would hold on for the win and Moreno second for a 1-2 San Ellie finish.
