Ashton Torns of Westlake set the tone early with his first jump to win the 6A Boys Long Jump title. He recorded a jump of 24-0.25 on his first attempt which kept him in the lead. Torns improved on his third attempt and recorded a jump of 24-1.25. This gave Torns a new PR and would hold up to win him the gold.
Jose Garcia of Harlingen finished in second after recording a jump of 24-1.00 on his fifth attempt. This mark was a few inches short of his PR. Jayden Keys of Katy Tompkins jumped into third place in his final attempt with a mark of 23-11.25.
Torns later competed in the 100m, when he ran 10.27 (w) for seventh overall place.
