With a regional performance of 2:08.30, freshman Nicole Humphries, of Lewisville Flower Mound held the fastest time coming into the contest.
Aubrey O'Connell, a junior from Prosper took off fast and held a slight lead coming through 200m at 30 seconds; she continued to force the issue through the 400m mark with a 1:03.21 split. Amalie Mills a senior from Comal Smithson Valley followed through the quarter in second with a time of 1:03.38.
O'Connell came through the 500m at 1:22 and the 600m still in the lead at 1:36. She attempted to put some distance between her and the field, but Mills was hard to drop. O'Connell, a cross country state champion used her endurance to pull away from the field with 100m to go and captured the gold medal with a time of 2:08.64. Kennedy Wade, senior from League City Clear Falls out kicked Mills and captured the silver with a time of 2:10.51. Mills finished in third place with a time of 2:11.69.
