Lufkin junior Kristopher Murphy returns in 2021 with hopes of qualifying back to the UIL state meet

East Texas cross country is one of the areas in the state that are often times overlooked.

There aren't a lot of 5A or 6A programs in the area, but don't let that cause an oversight of the area.

The girls top 5K preseason runners look to make big impacts on the state this season. Emily Martinez and teammate Taylor Gutierrez had very good endings to their 2020 campaigns.

The Jacksonville duo had very good runs at the Region 2-5A championships and they did it amongst some of the best individuals and teams in the state. Martinez qualified for state where she finished 28th overall as a freshman.

Nick Bodenheimer (Longview Spring Hill) is the top returner from last season with his 15:41.81 from the regional meet and with the same goal and not too far behind is Abel Solorio (Cumberland Academy) with his 16:01.95.

See who the top performers are heading into the preseason.
