There will be over 100 teams and clubs competing at the FEAST Patriot Cross Country Invitational this Saturday in Selma, Texas.
Some of the top teams in San Antonio, South Texas, Austin, and all over the Hill Country will compete encompassing just about every high school organization in Texas (Homeschool, SPC, TAPPS, UIL)
Girls Preview
Several Region 4 individuals and teams will go head to head this weekend at FEAST. Texas Independent Homeschool junior Isabella Edwards could be one of the front runners. The junior comes in with a 17:31.45 PR, but she could be challenged by New Braunfels' Kennady Fontenot who is the only other young lady with a sub 18 minute performance on her resume.
Priya Gangadharan and Micaela Villarreal come in with sub 18:20 performances and could challenge for the win.
The team win should go to Austin Vandegrift. Reason being, the Cross Country Coaches Association of Texas (CCCAT) No. 9 ranked UIL 6A team will be led by their very solid trio of Taylor Mathis, Caitlin Garrett, and Annie Burton. The Vipers top three had good races last weekend at the Southlake Carroll XC Invite and they'll definitely be in the mix individually at FEAST.
Another individual not to overlook is Danielle Salinas (Sharyland). Salinas, the 25th place UIL 5A individual finish at last year's state meet. She ran 18:41.90 on August 13th for the win at the Bulldog's Invitational. That is over a minute and a half faster than the start to her season last year.

Boys Preview
The boys race will have some heavy hitters competing. Kevin Sanchez (Austin Vandegrift) is already one of the stat leaders in Texas. The 2020 UIL 6A ninth place individual finisher is already off to a great start to the 2021 season. Last week at the Southlake Carroll XC Inv., Sanchez ran a 5,000m PR 15:05.71 for the win.
Tilden McMullen senior Isaiah Billingsley is the defending UIL 1A cross country state champ. Now that he has transferred, he will bring some more pizzaz to a strong running area.
San Antonio Johnson has a strong duo running up front for them. Junior Tate Underwood and senior Maximus Palacios come in with 15:27.30 and 15:39.97 PRs and should challenge for the win.
Round Rock senior Cade Stevens had a solid tune-up meet at Vista Ridge last weekend and looked ready for a big meet like this one.
Some the top runners could potentially come from the home school and private school leagues this weekend. FEAST sophomore Farrin Mangelson had a15:29.30 PR last season and followed that up with a 9:40.81 3,200m on the track. He could really step up a level with strength and experience in this sophomore season.
Nathan Morales (San Antonio Central Catholic) ran 15:46.10 last cross country season and was ninth at the TAPPS 6A state meet. He followed that up with several sub 4:30 and 10:00 burning races on the track going for 4:28.99 and 9:44.92 PRs.
More TAPPS boys will be front pack runners with the Parra twins. The San Antonio TMI brothers had exceptional freshman year campaigns. Marcelo Parra ran a 15:51.79 PR in cross last year and finished second overall at the TAPPS 5A state meet. He then went 1:59.55, 4:18.62, and 9:30.07 on the track. Twin brother Franco Parra was just as impressive; Franco went 16:27.74 for a 5K PR and finished 10th at the TAPPS 5A state meet. He really turned things up on the track with his 2:01.43, 4:21.37, and a blazing 9:14.91.
