Class 5A
Amy Morefield (Lucas Lovejoy) should be the headliner for the Region 2-5A girls race. She was 2020 champion as a sophomore and has the fastest time heading into the meet this year with her 17:36.
Checking in under 18:20 are Brighton Mooney (Frisco Independence) with a 17:55, Sarah Morefield and Kailey Littlefield of Lovejoy both have 18:09 SBs, Erin O'Brien (Frisco Memorial) has a 18:12, and Charlotte Hudson (Highland Park) has a 18:17 SB to help make a crowd of girls to make the chase pack.
Lovejoy is ranked nationally in the MileSplit50 as the US No. 16 team in the country. They should be heavy favorites to win the team title. Highand Park again has a solid core and can run at a 18:54 team average, Midlothian can run at a 18:58 team average, and Hallsville is having a superb season with their ability to run a 19:18 average.
Frisco Wakeland qualified for state last year and Prosper Rock Hill narrowly missed out and both teams will have chances to make it happen this year.
Frisco Wakeland senior Natnael Enright was the runner-up at last year's Region 2-5A championships. He later ran to a ninth place state meet finish and now he is back to do it all again.
Enright's 15:14 leads the region, but his main push should come from Jesus Escamilla-Camargo (West Mesquite) - 15:33 who was an individual qualifier last year.
A group of other sub 16-minute guys like Aiden Gonzalez-Rodiles (Frisco Reedy) - 15:50, Kevin Curry (Frisco) - 15:55, Devon Judelson (The Colony) - 15:55, Tate Barr (Lovejoy) - 15:55, Rohan Sharma (Lovejoy) - 15:56, and Gabriel De La O (Prosper Rock Hill) - 15:58 should make the rest of the race interesting.
The boys team race will be close and exciting.
Frisco Reedy and Frisco Wakeland are the statistical leaders heading into Monday and it's by slim margins.
The stats have Reedy with a 16: 18 team average and a total team time of 1:21.34 and Wakeland with a 16:15 average and a total team time of 1:21.16.
Reedy won the district 9-5A championships 48-49 over Wakeland and Monday will be the continuation.
Lovejoy has been improving as of lately and their chances of getting back to state look extremely bright thanks to a 16:22 average.
Mount Pleasant, Frisco Liberty, Rock Hill, Lufkin, and Highland Park all have slim margins between them as well making race day even more important for all teams involved.
