The UIL 6A girls race will be as open as the 5A boys race. There are so many runners with equal shots to win.
There are five girls under 18:20 heading into regionals, Felicity Hamilton (Klein Cain) - 18:02, Emily Ellis (Bridgeland) - 18:05, Gabrielle Hoots (Klein Oak) - 18:06, Emilee Jones (Waxahachie) - 18:08, and Rebecca Wylie (Klein Cain) - 18:15 who should all be in the mix for the regional win.
Right behind the group under 18:20, there are five girls who have run just over that and under 18:30.This race could be anyone's for the taking.
The Woodlands is the favorite to win the team title. They are the MileSplit50 US No. 19 ranked team nationally. With a 19:10 team average and a 1:16 split. They are solid, but their top two runners give them an advantage and make them hard to overcome.
Klein is the second best team according to the seasons numbers. They have a 19:22 team average and a 1:14 split. Kristen McHugh is Klein's number two runner and she is running herself into shape this saw her win regionals last year in 17:34. She could be a difference maker on Monday.
The fastest team in the region on average time is Klein Oak. They have three strong front runners in Hoots, Elizabeth Winkler, and Lydia Butler all being under 19-minutes.
The next group of teams with good possibilities to battle to qualify are Tomball, Bridgeland, College Park, and Klein Cain.
Nathanael Berhane (Wylie) and Kyle Easton (The Woodlands) have been two of the best runners all season long. Berhane has a SB of 15:10 and Easton checks in at 15:20, which they ran in their only heads up race at the Garmin MileSplit TX XC Invitational.
They should have help with pacing duties from Alejandro Villalva (Mesquite Horn), Nicholas Grams (Conroe Oak Ridge), Bryan Mileski (Tomball), Hunter Jackson (Wylie), and Pablo Lesarri (The Woodlands) who have all run under 15:40 this season.
The Woodlands and Wylie are the top two teams statistically. The Highlanders have a 15:49 average with a 0.48 second split and Wylie has a 15:58 average.
When looking at who could get the other qualifying spots, you'd have to first look at College Park. They can run a 16:11 team average and under 0.30 seconds for a split.
Tomball is another good team. They have the capability to run 16:16, which is about 12-15 seconds faster than the next teams.
We are talking about regionals, so things going perfectly is highly unlikely. If anything doesn't go right for the favorites, teams like Klein Oak, Klein Cain, Bridgeland, Conroe, and Oakridge all have legit capabilities to secure a qualifying spot.
