Taytum Goodman Could Add Another Region 1-1A Title

Taytum Goodman competes at the UIL 1A track and field championships

Taytum Goodman maybe small in stature, but she comes up big in performances. The Springlake Earth sophomore is only in her third high school competitive season, but the youngster already has three state titles to match.

Last year, Goodman took Region 1 by storm before heading to the state meet to do more of the same. In cross, she won the both the  Region 1-1A and 1A state championships by almost a minute.

She proved her running prowess on the track in the spring. In Austin, we saw her pass on running the 3,200m, focusing on shorter distances. The 800m and 1,600m championships weren't neither too short nor too fast for the freshman; she ran 2:16.71 and 5:06.78 PRs to win the state titles. She topped juniors and senior as well as the previous state champions in each event.

If you've never heard of a state cross country champion medalling in the 400m at the state track and field meet, then you wouldn't be alone.  Until last season, neither have I, but Goodman changed that for me. She finished third in the 400m to give her a third medal at the meet.

Taytum Goodman Competes at the 2020 UIL 1A state cross country meet

Goodman is back to competing in the 2 mile distance for cross and she is making good use of the speed work from last spring. She has already lowered her 3,200m cross country PR by 18 seconds from last year to this season.

With championship season in full effect, we just might see her lower that even more with the most important meets on her schedule coming up.

Goodman will compete at the Region 1-1A Championships on Monday October 25, 2021 at Lubbock's Mae Simmons Park at noon.
