TAPPS 5A Girls

Abby Metzger (Tyler Grace Community) is the top ranked performer heading into tomorrow's state meet. Her 11:23 is the top time, ahead of teammate Ashlynn Hecht and her 11:39.

Metzger and Hecht were both top five finishers last year going third and fourth respectively. However, not on the list below is a 11:48 from the defending state champion Reagan High (Southwest Christian College).

2021 TAPPS 5A Girls Rankings

The team race will be just as exciting as Metzger and Hecht going against High. Not only will the be competing for the individual title, but Southwest Christian's team title is also at stakes.

Tyler Grace has run in the 12:22 average range and Southwest has been in the 12:26 range. This will be an outstanding team battle.

TAPPS 5A Boys

The TAPPS 5A boys race will be just as good as the girls. With Ben Shearer's graduation, things will be open for someone new.

There are four boys with sub 16-minute races on the board for the 2021 season. San Antonio TMI twins Franco Parra and Marcelo Parra have 15:10 and 15:13 times that came from the FEAST Patriot 19th Annual Invitational earlier in the season. However, they also have other sub 16 minute races from true 5,000m races to show how solid they are.

Marcelo is the returning runner-up from last year and Franco was 10th overall and there are several other top finishers from last year's race.

Other top-10 finishers from last year's state meet: Pedro Cardenas (Brownsville St. Joseph) was third last year, Nicolas Siller (Boerne Geneva) was fifth, and Nicholas Rodriguez (Brownsville St Joseph) was ninth.

The team race will also be a dog fight.

TMI has the fastest team average of the year at 16:39, but they'll have to have their best race to win tomorrow.

The Woodlands Christian, San Antonio Cornerstone, Fort Worth Christian, and Brownsville St Joseph all have their sights on this year's state title.
