Ethan Sanders Looks To Hold Onto TAPPS Throwing Crown

- written by Stuart Kantor

At 6-5, 290, Ethan Sanders is the proverbial gentle giant. A product of San Antonio Christian who lives his faith religiously, Sanders is a dual-sport athlete who belies his size when he enters the ring. With grace and eloquence, Sanders manipulates every inch of the 7' shot put ring or 8' 2.50" discus ring.

A standout right tackle during football season, Sanders' dominance earned him offers from the likes of Clemson, Notre Dame, Colorado, and the University of Florida, amongst others. Ultimately, he decided to stay in state and become an Aggie, following in the footsteps of Bryce Foster from Katy Taylor who excelled on the Aggie's offensive line this past season and is sure to turn heads when he throws. Sanders, however, has decided against the continued battles in the trenches; at A&M, he's straight throws.

Sanders is the top returning thrower -- both shot put and discus -- in all of TAPPS! At the 2021 TAPPS State Track & Field Championships, he won the discus with a throw of 159-07 after setting a PR at the 6A District 03 meet a few weeks prior at 176-00. He also won the shot put with a TAPPS 6A record put of 56-06.25 after setting a PR at the 6A South Regional at 58-08.

In the summer of 2020, Sanders captured gold at the AAU Junior Olympic Games with a throw of 161-07; he captured silver in the shot at 52-01.

As he enters his senior season, the goals line up clearly: continue to outdistance John Paul II's Caden Kitler, second in all of TAPPS in both shot and discus and a legitimate threat to Sanders' 6A crown. And if all flies well, perhaps the overall TAPPS records for shot and discus (177-05 and 62-03.00) will move from Colleyville Covenant (Alex Adams, 2008) to San Antonio Christian.
