Nine Must See Races From This Weekend

Fort Bend Ridge Point had a great weekend

The outdoor track and field season has officially started and we were in a couple of places to get a front row seat to some of the meets.

Here are some of our favorite races from the weekend.

Cy Falls Golden Eagle Inv.- Girls 100H Heat 5

Two of the top hurdlers in the state went head to head twice on Friday at the Cy Falls Golden Eagle Inv. Cy Fair ISD hurdlers Rylee Hampton (Cypress Ridge) and Zaire Moore (Cypress Falls) battle it out for the first of many times this season.

El Paso Americas Inv. - Girls 300H Heat 1

The first heat of the girls 300H at El Paso Americas was intense. Lanes four and five are in the middle of the track for a reason and these girls showed us why that is.

They action was right there and it wasn't until the next to last hurdle that a Franklin runner took charge and motored home for narrow win over Eastwood.

Cy Springs Panther Invite - Boys 100m Heat 5

It was cold and it was windy, but you can't hate on the boy's who took their sweats off to get on the line. The boy's in heat five of the 100m didn't let the fans down who came to watch them run.

Bobby Drake (College Station) is off to a good start to his 2022 outdoor track and field season. He ran well last week and even though it was wind aided, he ran well again this weekend. He won the race with a 10.62 (w), leading four boys under 11.0.

El Paso Americas Inv. - Boy's 1600m Heat 1
El Paso is a hot bed for distance running and despite a ton of wind, we saw how good it's going to get this season out west.

Jared Laverty (El Paso Americas) and Luis Pastor (El Paso Coronado) pulled away from the rest of the field and it was a two man race for two plus laps. Pastor would come away with the narrow win in the end.

Pearland John Morris III Inv. - Boys 4x200 Relay

The Fort Bend Ridge Point boys had already ran 41.89 to win the 4x100 relay, but their performance in the 4x200 relay should be considered a little more impressive at this point in the year.

Their 1:26.10 is very good and it should add to the already interesting sprinting we expect to see this season from the South Houston area teams.

Lovejoy Early Bird Inv. - Boys 800m Heat 2

The boy's 800m heat two was on from the gun. At the halfway point, there were about 10 guys there in contention for the lead.

However, it was Parker Sines form Prosper Rock Hill who then took off and build a lead on the backstretch. Sines would extend the lead heading into the final straight when the kicks were exhibited.

Highland Park senior Ray Saalfield would show his leg speed and close the gap, but would come up just short of Sines' win.

Cy Falls Golden Eagle Inv. - Girls 100H Heat 4

Girls in lanes two and three were stride for stride through the first eight hurdles. Lane five came out of nowhere to make it interesting in the late meters of the race, but the win came from lane two.

Cy Falls Golden Eagle Inv. - Girls 300H Heat 5

It was Rylee Hampton and Zaire Moore going at it once again Friday night at the Golden Eagle Inv. This time it was the 300H instead of the 100H. And instead of a warm-up, it was looked more like a late season sizzler.

Hampton again got the win, but it was in a 43.09 impressive run to Moore's own impressive 44.03.

Pearland John Morris III Inv.-  Boys 4x400 Relay

The 4x400 relay at the John Morris Inv was a three team race from the start of the gun. Shadow Creek, Ridge Point, and Strake Jesuit were running tight until the last exchange when Shadow Creek assumed control.

Ridge Point had already captured two sprint relay wins to this point was in a close second with Strake Jesuit an eyelash behind.

Check out the race that had four teams run 3:24 or better.
