Round Rock Cedar Ridge junior Taye Jackson is off to a good start to the 2022 outdoor track and field season. His Cedar Ridge team traveled to the Houston area last weekend to compete at the Cy Falls Golden Eagle Invitational.
Jackson ran the 400m and came away with a win; just as he planned it. . . . well, not really. He typically is a short sprinter and runs the 100m and the 200m and the relays, but his coach had other plans for him to start this year, "Coach wanted me to switch it up and had me run the 400. Honestly, I didn't think I'd do that good, but I'm glad at what I did and I'd call this a successful first meet."
A state leading mark suggests Jackson is onto something calling it a success. He won the event at the Golden Eagle Inv. and did so with a TX No. 1 leading time of 49.95.
This season could be a breakout for the senior, he plans on encouraging his teammates to build off the momentum of week one, "I'm going to tell them to look how good we did on our first meet. We can do so much better if we push ourselves and work at what we can do and we'll be fine," Jackson said.
"Start early and put in work that others won't see, that's all you need to do to be successful and trust me, it pays off."Taye Jackson, Round Rock Cedar Ridge senior
Jackson is working on securing his student athletic future as he is mulling over offers he has from college coaches. At the same time, he is trying to end his high school career with a bang.
He has some inspirational words for the underclassmen who have yet to reach this stage of their career, "start early and put in work that others won't see, that's all you need to do to be successful and trust me, it pays off."
