Madison Peters won the Region III Preview
This year, Madison Peters might be the best distance runner in the Houston area.
The Pearland sophomore opened up the 2021 cross country season by placing seventh place at the Southlake Carroll XC Invite. That was her only loss of the season, but it was in a seventh place finish and a 17:57.59 time.
Since then, Peters has been on a tear by winning every meet this year and only running over 18:00 once. That one time was this past weekend at the Region III Cross Country Preview.
This year is kind of a redemption season for the young runner. Her freshman year started off with nothing but wins, but the season ended in a bad way at the Region 3-6A Championships.
"I think I've learned that most of running is mental, so keeping mental toughness is key,"Madison Peters, Pearland sophomore
"I feel like people don't really take me seriously because last year, I did pass out at regionals and so I've been waiting for my moment to show people that I don't just choke at big meets.
Although just a young runner, she is learning and developing her running strategy and planning. "I think I've learned that most of running is mental, so keeping mental toughness is key," Peters shared.
That mental strength is part of what makes Peters as sharp of a runner as she is currently demonstrating. She is still working on herself and finding ways to keep improving, I've learned that I definitely need to work on my finish and the last mile," she said.
Winning races is nothing strange for Peters and with more winning to come this season, Peters is a runner to watch.
