Tornillo junior Angel Torres won the first gold medal from the UIL Track and Field State Championships ever.
He won just the second and third medals since the 1970s for the school with his 1,600m win and 3,200m third place finish.
The El Paso area product is just one of the many distance runners in the area to keep the hotbed of distance running area flourishing. He talked to MileSplit about his races and the weekend he had in Austin last weekend.

With a flare for dramatic running, Torres has proven time and time again, he is worth the price of admission.
He won a state title, but it wasn't without being pushed and as he admitted, it was from hard work; hard work that he needed every bit of it to take the win.
