Region 2 Preview

Mertzon County's Tayte Cormier looks like the person to take over the throne in 1A. Coming off his third place finish and being 30 seconds ahead of the next returning runner Cormier will be in the driver's seat for the individual state title. Rounding out the top three individuals in the region are seniors Isaiah Briones from Marathon and Federico Terrones of Comstock.

The regional team championship will be a competitive race with Mertzon Irion County, Clyde Eula, Comstock and Munday all returning their core groups from last year's state berths.

Irion County finished 11th at the state meet and return senior Cormier, sophomore Grady Jackson, senior Edward Blanco, and junior Trae Melton.

Clyde Eula finished 12th at the state meet and return their entire team. Led by seniors Ricky Arispe, Blane Pack, juniors Clayton Gray, John Powers and sophomores Morgan Stawarczik, Riley Johnson and Isaiah Arispe.

Following their regional running mates the team from Comstock finished 13th at the state meet. Federico Terrones and Jaiden Sanchez will lead the group of sophomores Edgar Crane, Logan Henderson, Hector Medina.

The Munday Mongols were the 4th qualifying team from region 2 finishing 15th at the state meet. They return a senior heavy team with Jaxon Bowman, Christopher Garcia, Bryson Wilson who are hungry for a top three finish at the state meet. Junior Juan Rojos will look to improve his positioning in order to help the team achieve its goals. AJ Diaz and Connor Wilson will both be sophomores, and be on the lookout for freshman Haiden Bowman as the three look to help bolster the Munday crew.

The top four teams look like they will be the same four teams to come out of the region this year. Crowell has an outside shot at catching Irion County if they put in the time this summer.
