Region 2 Preview

Ummi Chanez of Marfa will look to add onto her experience this season. After finishing third at the regional meet Chanez went on to finish fifth at the state meet.

Joining Chanez will be Hailee Garmer, the junior from Roby, sophomore Berkley Callaway of Mertzon Irion County, senior Aundrea Garcia of Marfa, sophomore Hazel Lord of Westbrook, senior Ireland Sanchez of Imperial Buena Vista, sophomore Paisley Morrow of Knox City, sophomore Lilly Benson of Roby and junior Chasity Benson also of Roby all finished within 18 seconds of each other at the regional meet.

Buena Vista finally broke through after two years of being close to finally winning the state title in 2021. The Lady Longhorns graduated some key components, but return sophomore Gabriella Sanchez, senior Ireland Sanchez and junior Kiara Corona. Can the young runners come in and replace what was lost to graduation to try and repeat as champions?

Looking to dethrone the Lady Longhorns will be the pride of Fischer County Lady Lions of Roby. Returning for the Lady Lions will be senior Hope Garmer, juniors Hailee Garmer, Chastity Benson, and sophomores Lily Benson, Ivy Espinoza as well as Joselynn Williams. Coach quote

The Comstock Lady Panthers were 30 places from a podium finish last season. They return six members of the team led by junior Arleth Garcia, junior Emily Mila, sophomore Kennia Lopez, senior Yaritza Pena, senior Isela Chavez, and junior Rebecca Mitchell who are seasoned and ready to make a statement.

Just like the teams who are above them the Westbrook Lady Wildcats return six from the 2021 season. Seniors Meloney Diaz, Madison Munoz, juniors Tae Morris, Brooklyn Magers, Gisell Chavez, and sophomore Hazel Lord. Coming off of their 10th place finish they look to improve and make another trip to Old Settlers Park.

This region can end up being the most competitive in the state. Marfa, Mertzon Irion County and Aspermont have the returning runners to knock one of these teams off and earn a birth to the state meet.
