2022 Preseason Panhandle XC Girls To Watch For

Panhandle Preseason 2nd Team

The junior is only on her third high school cross country season, but is already a two-time state meet qualifier. She finished 67th as a freshman and was 74th overall last year. She has a 19:14 PR from state back in 2020. Her track season gives high hopes for more growth as she ran PRs of 5:54 and 12:31 last spring.

Pena was just a freshman last year for the Westerners, but she ran like a seasoned vet.  She was under 20 minutes for most of the season and ended things up with a 20th place finish at Region 1-5A and then 82nd at state.

The track is where she continued to run beyond her years. She was consistently under 5:30 in the 1,600m with a 5:21 PR and she dropped a 11:46 in the 3,200m for a third place finish at Region 1-5A.

Pena could be Coach Sparks; next big time runner beginning with her sophomore year.


12. Bailey Springer - Lubbock Monterey

Springer finished 15th at the Region 1-5A championships and dropped six consecutive sub 20 minute 5Ks to end her sophomore cross country season. A 19:06 was her best effort of the season, but a 19:56 was the fastest 5K and it was on the state meet course as she finished 96th at the 5A championships.


11. Adeline Turman - Amarillo

Turman was just a freshman last season, so she was able to come in and learn the culture and get accustomed to high school running. This year, she could be a vital part of the Sandstorm squad.

She ran 5:43 in the 1,600m, 12:31 in tgheb 3,200m, and 19:32 PR at the Amarillo ISD meet.



10. Hailey Roberson - Canyon Randall

Roberson was huge for the Randall Raiders last year as she finished 44th at 2021 UIL state meet in 19:21.

She also ran several sub 20 minute races and finished 11th at Region 1-4A; on the track she ran PRs of 2:32, 5:48, and 12:07.


9. Alex Pinter - Canyon Randall 

Another cornerstone senior, 86th at UIL state meet, 19:44 at Amarillo ISD meet, was 34th at Region 1-4A. Ran PRs on the track in the 800-2:36, 1600 - 5:45, and 3200 - 12:19


8. Sadie Sanchez - Canyon Randall

Sanchez is another sophomore who had a solid freshman season; she ran a best of 19:25 at the Dallas Jesuit Classic. Sanchez added a 19"43 at the Region 1-4A championships for a 16ht place finish.

On the track, she ran 1:02 in 400m and mostly focused on the 800m as she went for a 2:39 PR
