UIL 1A girls race for the finish line at the 2022 UIL Cross Country State Championships
Taytum Goodman was the overwhelming favorite to win the 2022 individual 1A state championship. It was early into the race that she established herself into the race.
The Springlake Earth junior won her seventh UIL State Championship and third in cross country with a time of 11:11. Once again, she claimed the victory by crossing the line by over a minute prior to the second place finisher.
Shaylee Stracener finished runner-up in 12:26 to initiate the trio of freshmen to place in the top five. Jace Chisum of Jayton was third in 12:34, Aabriella Villanueva from Springlake Earth finished out the freshmen in the top five at 12: 50 with Priddy senior Sydney Partin sliding in fourth for her third straight top-10 finish at state.

Stracener and fellow freshman Kylie Hargrove helped infuse the Miller Grove girls program with more talent to replace attrition through graduation. That helped the team get back onto the podium.
Last year, the team didn't podium. This gets them back on track when they were adding trophies for runner-up in 2020, champions in 2019, and runner-up in 2018, and 2017.
They totaled 105 points to edge out Nazareth who scored 107 for second and with Goodman and Villanueva finishing in the top five bolstered Springlake Earth onto the podium in third place.
