Gatesville senior Carlo Martinez had full control of the 4A
Boys 3200m en route to winning in a time of 9:14.32. He went to the lead right
from the start and pushed the pace early hitting the 400m in 66 seconds and the
800m in 2:15.
Canyon's Lathan Lewter and Tyler Chapel Hill's Emery Crayton
held close to Martinez through the first five laps, but then Martinez gradually
pulled away over the next two laps gaining one second per lap and then he closed
with a 1:03.67, the fastest final lap of any of the competitors.
There was not much movement in the places throughout the
race other than Pittsburg's Jacob Berryhill went from eighth to fourth over
the final five laps.
