 2A Boys 100m

Ernest Campbell (Refugio) came in as the defending champion and the top seed with a 10.26 from regionals. However, this field was loaded with competition including Bobby Drake (Bremond).

After a strong 4x100 relay anchor leg, Campbell blasted out of the blocks with Drake next to him. That was until after the drive phase when it was all Campbell blasting up the track with a picture perfect transition phase.

With the race in control all the fans had to do was watch the clock for final confirmation of what we saw . . . Campbell is fast. A wind legal 10.22 (+2.0) ws on the clock and Drake would finish second in 10.52 with Carson McCoy (Thorndale) third with a time of 10.79.

 2A Boys 400m

Last year's top returning finisher in the 2A Boys 400m was Crawford's Huston Powers who was out in lane 9. Powers got off to a good start, but he only proved to set the pace for Mart's Brandon Lundy who caught him on the final curve and thundered to the finish line in 48.51.

The early leader in the race was Jackson Jefferies from Lovelady who was on his inside lane position, but he was never able to threaten Lundy around the curve. In the end, Lundy won by 0.70 seconds ahead of Refugio's Jason Moore. Jhoan Menjivar of Plains took home the bronze medal.

 2A Boys 200m

This was a smaller heat due to three no shows. We had the defending silver medalist Charles Moore, a senior from Stamford in lane 5. The fastest seed time turned in was from Ernest Campbell a senior from Refugio at a 21.71.

From start to finish it was a one man show with Campbell dominating and winning in commanding fashion with a time of 20.92. Moore captured silver with a time of 21.63 and Sutten Silerio, a sophomore from Mason came in third with a time of 21.92.
