5A boys 4x400 Relay
With State Team Title implications in place for both Fort
Bend Marshall and Mansfield Timberview, it made the 5A Boys 4x400m relay one of
the most intriguing races of the day. Denton Ryan entered the final event with
38 points but did not have an entry. Fort Bend Marshall had 26 and Mansfield
Timberview entered with 22 points.
Knowing that a second-place finish would give them the State Title outright, Fort Bend Marshall got off to a great start and were running 1-2 with McKinney North after 800 meters. A&M Consolidated moved into the picture on the third lap when Corbin Parker briefly put his team into second place ahead of Fort Bend Marshall while McKinney North had put a little gap between themselves and everyone else.
On the last lap, David Walker kept McKinney North comfortably in the lead and brought them home with a 48.23 split and an overall time of 3:14.66 for the gold medal. In the battle for second, FB Marshall's Nolen Richie held a slight lead over A&M Consolidated's Justin Gooden until Gooden slipped past him right at the line to take second place, .01s ahead of FB Marshall.
The third-place finish put Fort Bend Marshall in a tie for the team title with Denton Ryan.
