Boys Pole Vault

Dyson Wicker (Rockwall-Heath) - Junior

Wicker had a great UIL 6A state meet when he won with a US No. 8 ranked 17-0.25 personal best clearance. Wicker went over 16 feet five times this season and the only time he didn't clear 16-2 in the championship season was a 15-6 at Region 2-6A for runner-up. He bounce back for the win at state and ranks tenth nationally.

Gator Young (Argyle) - Sophomore

Young won a the UIL 5A pole vault state championship with a 16-0 clearance in Austin. He got comfortable with the 16-0 bar clearing it five times this outdoor season. The Argyle soph went for a 16-5 PR at the Region 1-5A championships.

Leo Bowen (SA Alamo Heights) - Senior

Bowen duplicated his 2022 runner-up finish at the UIL 5A state meet. Bowen had a 16-8.75 season best at the Texas Relays in a third place finish. He had six meets where he jumped over 16-0 and was undefeated competing outside of Austin.

Samuel Abati (SA Reagan) - Junior 

Abati had an excellent junior season. He PRed and broke the school record early into the season and kept climbing. He reached a 16-4.75 PR at the area meet and ended with a 16-3 runner-up finish at the state meet.

Jacob Dorrell (Denton Guyer) -  Senior

Denton Guyer senior pole vaulter Jacob Dorrell had a heck of a senior year. His development was through the roof going from a 15-3 outdoor PR to 16-0.75 indoors and upping that to     6-4.75 outdoors. He was fourth at Texas Relays nd ended the UIL season with a third place medal at the UIL 6A state meet.

Jaxson Bray (Bosqueville) - Senior

Pole vaulting is in the Bray blooklines and Jaxon brought another UIL state meet gold medal to the household. He cleared 16-0 four times this season including both a regional title (16-1) and the state title (16-3) to take the UIL 2A championship.

Sean Gribble (Aledo) - Senior

Gribble was on his way to an amazing season. He had gone unbeaten from the beginning of February through the end of March at the Texas Relays. That period consisted of three 16-0 and over clearances, including his US No. 7 PR jump of 17-0.75 for the win at Texas Relays. Unfortunately, that was the end of his season.

Ryley Klefstad (Tomball Concordia Lutheran) - Senior

Klefstad is one athlete who can turn it on when he absolutely needs to, and that's what he did this season. He won every meet this year aside from his seventh place finish at Texas Relays (15-9) and at Nike Outdoor Nationals, where he finished fourth with a 16-4 season best clearance. He won his second TAPPS 6A state championship.

Tanner Woodring (Vanderbilt Industrial) - Senior

Woodring upped his UIL 3A state meet runner-up from 2022 with the state title this year. He cleared 16-0 six times this year including the state meet. He had a personal record jump of 16-5 to win Region 4-3A.


Honorable Mention: Eli Barnes (Argyle), Parker Brannon (Fort Bend Ridge Point), Jacob smith (Wylie), Silas Zimmerman (Conroe Grand Oaks)


Freshman of the Year: Maximus Garvin (Garrison) - Freshman - 16-0 2A runner-up
