Coach Clayton Brookins: 'The Expectation Is The State Chip'

Duncanville head coach, Clayton Brookins talks with MileSplit about his team's successes. He shares how he feels it will take a national record to win the 4x200 relay at the Texas UIL state meet, as well as his belief that the US No. 2 All-Time Duncanville 4x100 relay can run even faster.

In recent weeks, a lot of attention has come to Clayton Brookins and his Duncanville track and field program.

His boys 4x100 relay team ran second and third fastest times (39.65 and 39.73) in the history of the sport at the high school level.

However, Brookins' squads have also tasted success for much of the last three years since he took over. They've won silver trophies for their runner-up performances at the UIL 6A state track meet each of the past two years.

With this year's relay squad running under 40-seconds over the past two weeks, it places Brookins in a class of being one of only two coaches in the country (Lloyd Banks, Fort Bend Marshall - 2019 and 2023) to ever coach two different sub 40-second relays teams in different years (2022 and 2024).

Individually, Brookins has coached a Texas Gatorade Player of the Year with Pierre Goree in 2022 after winning the UIL 6A 100m state championship. He has also guided three different individual state finals qualifiers in the UIL 6A 100m.

As a former NCAA All-American at Texas Christian University (TCU) on the 4x400 relay and in the 400-meter hurdles, Brookins uses his experience to teach his student-athletes as well as lead and guide his program.

His ability and experience have landed him on the list of all-time performers in TCU's illustrious track and field program history. It's also setting the stage for the years to come at Duncanville.
