All three state medalists were back for this year's Class 2A Boys 800 meter run so a tight was to be expected. That was the case through the first lap and then some.
After winning the 3200 this morning, Caden Thurman was determined to claim his second title of the day. The Wolfe City senior came in with the fastest time from regionals but it required quite the effort on the second lap. He was in sixth through 300 meters and moved into fourth at the halfway point.
The final 200 meters belonged to him as he took the win with a time of 1:54.60.
Last year's champion Jhoan Menjivar of Plains took the lead off the break and maintained a strong pace to finish second with a time of 1:55.15.
Jace Coleman, the 2023 silver medalist, held onto third with a time of 1:55.98. The Rio Vista junior overtook fourth to beat Aiden Summer, last year's bronze medalist.

Taylor Warrick timed his kick wisely and made quite the comeback in the final 100 meters to win the 2A Boys Mile. The Stockdale senior was in fifth coming into the final straightaway but a herculian effort pushed him to the front.
As the crowd roared during the final lap, Warrick made up a distance of about 10 meters between him and the leader.
Alan Baez Corpus from Ganado held strong to keep his spot in second with a time of 4:29.73 despite trailing after the first lap.
Wetera Schlachter took the final podium spot with a time of 4:29.98. The sophomore from Boys Ranch turned in a blistering final lap of 1:03.56 to hold onto the final podium spot.
