2A Girls 3200m

Clean start for the second gun and they all took off pretty closely bunched up through the first 400 with Yarida De Leon a sophomore from Chilton, Kaycei Salazar, a junior from La Villa and Payten McGee a freshman from Goldthwaite all cam through the first lap within 19 seconds of each other.

De Leon and McGee were out in front on the back stretch but Calista Turner a senior from Malakoff Cross Roads made her move at the 1200m mark and never looked back, she began then to distance herself from the rest of the pack.

Turner kept the lead with 1600 left with positions two through five shuffling around and falling further back. Turner continued to build her lead, but the pack of four were continuing to hold tight to each other. Salazar and De Leon were still hanging on to spots two and three.

Turner definitely had the gold medal locked and continued to build her lead, but it was going to be a fight for silver and bronze.

In the bell lap Turner kept on trucking with the chase pack starting to spread out and Madison Nunes, a senior from New Deal moved into second with De Leon hanging onto third.

Turner took a commanding lead and captured the gold with a time of 11:07.12.De Leon and Nunes were moving back and forth with but in the homestretch Nunes passed De Leon to capture the silver with a time of 11:41.63 and De Leon came in third place with a time of 11:42.95.
