Last month at the US Olympic Trials, Jasmine Moore became the first American woman ever to qualify for the Olympic Games in both the long jump and the triple jump in the same Olympic cycle.
Today, by winning bronze in the long jump, she made more US Olympic history and became the second woman in Olympic history to medal in both the long jump and triple jump at the same Olympic Games.
Earlier this week, Moore won the first women's triple jump medal for America. She earned the Bronze Medal with her best jump in the competition of 14.67 m (48 ft 2 in).
A few days later, Moore earned a position in the long jumps finals on her first preliminary jump to join the other two American women.
In today's finals, the Mansfield, Texas native was able to accomplish the historic feat when she took advantage of getting every centimeter of the take-off board on an early jump in the competition. That enabled her to momentarily lead the competition and establish her medal winning potential.
In the end, fellow American Tara Davis-Woodall would go on to win the gold, but with a leap of 6.96 m (22 ft 10 in) Moore captured her second Bronze Medal of the Paris Games.
Moore's two medals in Paris makes her the second woman in Olympic history to win medals in both jump events in the same games.
In the 2004 Athens Games, Russia's Tatyana Lebedeva won the gold medal in the long jump and bronze in the triple jump. She also won silver in both events at the 2008 Beijing Games, but was stripped for doping in 2015 when a sample from the 2008 was tested.
