Previewing Region IV at the State Meet

Elizabeth Leachman

As Will Grundy said multiple times in his Region IV recap video, "There is some serious cross country going on in Region IV this year."

The Region is rife with talent this year and multiple individual State champions are expected. Whether a team title or two is in the cards is a little more difficult to predict. The biggest story line heading into the State meet is what can be expected of superstar junior Elizabeth Leachman who was leading the 5A girls Region race with less than a mile to go when she had to step off the course. Fortunately for her, her Boerne Champion teammates stepped up and have given her a chance to defend her State title.

A few of the other intriguing subplots to the 2024 UIL Cross Country State championships include: can Gavin Chapa (Reagan) continue to hold off all challengers?, can the Lytle boys finally grab that elusive State title?, can the Region produce two teams on the podium for the 5A girls and boys?, who is Jose Barrera (San Diego)? Will there be a team that shocks us at the State meet like the Great Hearts Northern Oaks boys winning it all last year?
