Texas A&M Bluebonnet Invitational
The situation is the same with the boys sprint events as it is with the girls sprints. The Texas A&M Bluebonnet Invitational has a short history, but a very credible one in these events. This year's races should be no different.
Some of the top ranked sprinters this outdoor season are entered to compete in College Station this weekend, but there also some who have yet to compete in these open events.
Check out the lists below to see who the boys we think you will want to know heading into this weekend's premier meet.
Brayden Williams (#6196) races at the 2024 Region 2-6A Championships
Boys 100m
Richard Lee (Dickinson) is a senior at Dickinson and he doesn't have a whole lot on his resume. When he has competed, some of his marks look good. coming into the season he had personal bests of 10.8 and a 21.68. In his only race this year, he already produced a 10.22 at the Ed Taylor Invitational for the top mark in the state. That's the exact wind legal time it took to win this meet last year (Jelani Watkins, Atascocita).
With the majority of Texas sprint marks, you have to take them with a grain of salt. Meets with FAT and wind readings tell a story that most track meets don't tell. If Lee does is primed and ready to go, then the track at A&M will be the best he's ever touched and could see him really drop a blazing time.
Here is what we do know, there are some fast dudes at this meet. We have the top 20 listed, but some boys not listed will change that list before this weekend.
We also know that Jayden Finley (Duncanville), Brayden Williams (Duncanville), and Justin Stewart (Fort Worth Arlington Heights) can all fly!
The trio works out together in Fort Worth and they are all committed to the University of Georgia. Not only that, over the summer, Finley ran 10.25 on this track and went 6.61 indoors. He also ran 10.11 wind-aided; he was third in the 100m at the 2023 UIL 5A state meet.
Williams ran 10.14 this past summer on this very track and went 6.67 in the 60m indoors and was sixth at the UIL 6A state meet last year.
Stewart ran 6.69 indoors in the 60m and has a 10.26 wind-aided best and was sixth at the 2023 UIL 6A state meet.
One last name you'll hear this weekend is Dillon Mitchell (C.E. King). The East Houston product already showed he was one of the top freshman football players in Texas this past fall, but he also became one of the fastest in the freshman class in history with his 6.74 in the 60m this indoor season. He is the second fastest 15-year old ever in the world per the World Athletics Hub.
Other Athletes To Watch:
Abraham Olufemi-Dada (Cypress Lakes) - Has run 10.50; No. 9 in the state
Braylon Davis (Waxahachie) - Has run 10.53; No. 14 in the state
Josh Gayden (Round Rock McNeil) - Has run 10.55; No. 19 in the state
Justin Stewart (#6290) competes at the 2022 Region 1-6A Championships
Boys 200m
The 200m is as deep as the 100m, but it might not be as top heavy. However, it will be better than some might think. For one, the No. 2 ranked runner in the state is scheduled; Braylon Davis (Waxahachie) brings ins 20.80 in from the Cedar Hill Opener, back on February 8th.
Then, Justin Stewart strikes again. He ranks No. 4 outdoors in the state with his 21.04 and 21.05 runs this outdoor season. However, don't overlook his national leading 20.94 indoor race at the 2025 Texas A&M High School Indoor Championship.
Blake Hamilton (Fort Bend Christian Academy) doesn't have a top time on the season just yet, however, he is a 200m PRO! Consider this, while at Katy Tompkins last year, he ran 21.32 at this very track meet to finish fifth. He also went on to finish fifth at the UIL 6A state meet last year and had a 21.10 PR.
One more 200m runner to look out for is senior Swayde Griffin (Lago Vista), who is back following a successful junior season. In the 200m, he finished fourth at the UIL 4A state meet in the 200m with a 21.44 PR.
Spencer Harvey (Liberty Hill) - Has run 21.15 ; No. 7 in the state
Kaleb Samuels (Pearland) - Has run 21.30; No. 12 in the state
Samuel Williams (North Garland) - Has run 21.41; No. 17 in the state
Josh Gayden (Round rock McNeil) - Has run 21.48; No. 19 in the state
Kendrick Jones Jr. races to the win in the 200m at the 2024 UIL 5A state meet
Boys 400m
The boys 400m will be a deep field. Texas is perhaps the one state in the country where 50-point and even 49-second 400m isn't even the tip of the iceberg when it comes to top marks. That is apparently the case for the beginning of March.
There are so many boys I'd like to mention on this list, but this would be too long of an article. The field is so deep that the second ranked quarter-miler in the state will be there, but isn't even running this event (Christian Witcher, Conroe Grand Oaks) and yet it will still be a can't miss type of event.
So, who is running? Well, the top ranked boys 400m runner and perhaps one of the best overall performers in the state so far this season Heath Grant (Willis) is. He brings his 46.48 mark from the Conroe Tiger Relays just last weekend to College Station.
Number four ranked Dionne Sims (C.E. King) is also racing this event. Sims had gone 47.38 this season way back on February 8th; he could be ready to dip in the 46s this weekend, nearly a month later.
Also competing, but not ranked in the top 20 this season are a couple of runners who are hands down some of Texas' best runners. Jacorric Allen (Boling), is formerly of Wharton and has a UIL state meet silver and bronze medal in this event.
Kendrick Jones Jr. (Belton) doesn't race the 400m too much, but he does it just enough to let everyone know he can. The UIL 5A 200m state champion did make it his focus over the summer and all he did was run 45.66 to win the AAU Junior Olympic Games.
Ian Hill (Iowa Colony) is also competing in the 400m, while he hasn't raced it yet this year, he did run 48.24 at the UIL 4A state meet to finish fourth.
Junior Abram Reagan (Austin Lake Travis) hasn't raced at 400m this outdoor season, but he has one race in each the 100m and 200m. He produced 10.65 and 21.26. Reagan did run the 400m indoors and dropped a 47.66 personal best.
I also want to point out Caleb Holmes (DeSoto). He also hasn't run the 400m this outdoor season, but does have a 48.01 PR from last season.
Other Athletes To Watch:
Ethan Johnson (Houston Strake Jesuit) - Has run 47.56; No. 6 in the state
Charvis Tubbs (Humble) - Has run 47.42; No. 7 in the state
Sean Carter (League City Clear Springs) - Has run 48.02; No. 9 in the state
Joshua Shelton (Pearland) - Has run 48.43; No. 13 in the state
