It is currently a quick intermission between Region meets and State meets and I wanted to take the time to quickly go over the Region meets that affected San Antonio schools other than the UIL 5A and 6A schools which have already been written about last weekend.
UIL 4A Girls
The Region IV-4A team title came down to three locals schools with Fredericksburg winning their fourth title in five years after accumulating 80 points. Canyon Lake finished in second with 69 points and Bandera was third with 54 points.
- Kinlee Lawlis (Bandera) won the 200m in 24.77 and the long jump with a leap of 18-9.25 and then ran the anchor leg on the winning 4x200m relay team that won in 1:41.81.
- The distance trio of Rilyn Grona (Fredericksburg), Kendall Fallon (Davenport) and Hannah Hammer (Canyon Lake) took the top three spots in the 800m with Grona winning in 2:16.00 and Fallon in second in 2:18.83. Hammer added a runner-up finish in the 1600m (5:20.94).
- Addie Schoessow (Fredericksburg) had a big personal best en route to winning the triple jump with a leap of 38-11.
- Zoe Breitsprecher (La Vernia) took the gold medal in the pole vault with a clearance of 12-1 and Kourtni Geyer (Devine) cleared 11-6 to take third and will go to State as the Wild Card.
UIL 4A Boys
Wimberley finished as the Region runner-up with 76 points as they fell just two points short of Lago Vista.
- George Stenberg (Fredericksburg) won the 100m in 10.65 and Devere Willis (Uvalde) was the runner-up in 10.83 after entering the finals as the seventh qualifier. Willis went 22-11.25 in the long jump, but it was not quite good enough to advance.
- Nolan Waida (Wimberley) won the triple jump with a mark of 46-0.5, was second in the 200m in 21.66 and was the Wild Card State meet qualifier in the long jump with a big jump of 23-5.75.
- Wimberley's 4x200m relay team was second in 1:28.90 and then they won the 4x400m relay in 3:21.15.
- Two local pole vaulters punched their tickets to the State meet with Charlie Hanle (Wimberley) winning at 14-9 and Pierson Pilgrim (Pleasanton) was second with a 14-6 clearance.
UIL 3A Girls
It was another dominating performance for Randolph as they registered 122 points and doubled up second place Goliad. Poth finished in fourth place with 42 points.
- Taylor Nunez (Randolph) remained perfect in her career at the Regional level with four more gold medals. Individually, she won the 100m in 11.16, the 200m in 24.26 and the long jump with the top mark in Texas this year, 21-0. She was also part of the winning 4x400m relay team.
- Sophia Bendet (Randolph) and Aubrey Milam (Randolph) swept the distance events. Bendet won the 800m in 2:10.45 and the 1600m in 4:59.91 while Milam was second in the 1600m in 5:14.14 and she won the 3200m in 11:32.29.
- Maggie Luna (Marion) took the top spot in the 400m with a winning time of 59.09 and qualified as the Wild Card in the 100m with her time of 12.22.
- Adisen Magill (Poth) had a big performance taking second in the 100mh (15.35) and triple jump (36-4.25) and she finished third in the 300mh with a time of 47.72.
- Klarissa Frain (Cole) was the gold medal winner in the 300mh with a great time of 45.48.
- Dakota San Miguel (Dilley) saved her best performance for the right time with a huge personal best in the shot put. Her toss of 38-4 allowed her to finish second overall.
UIL 3A Boys
Randolph and Marion were the top two local teams in Region IV-3A. Randolph finished in fourth with 41 points while Marion tied for fifth with 30 points.
- Aiden Martinez (Great Hearts Monte Vista) was dominant in the hurdles. He won the 110mh in 13.77 after running 13.70 in the prelims and also won the 300mh in 37.02.
- Randolph picked up the majority of their points in the relays where their 4x200m and 4x400m teams took second place. The 4x200m team ran 1:28.25 and finished just 0.03s out of first. The 4x400m team finished a comfortable second place in 3:27.48.
- Aiden Reed (Poth) and Larson Dziuk (Poth) each advanced to the State meet in the throws. Reed won the discus with a throw of 167-7 and was second in the shot put with a mark of 57-5 while Dziuk took the Wild Card spot with his throw of 163-7 in the discus.
- Diego Reyna (Lytle) was the runner-up in the 3200m with his time of 10:01.23.
UIL 1A/2A Boys and Girls
The Falls City girls finished as the team runner-ups at the 2A level with 70 points.
- Jace Bennett (Utopia) was the 1A boys champion in the pole vault with a clearance of 14-6 and he will look to win his second straight State title.
- Zach Born (Stacey) was a double winner at the 2A level after taking the 1600m in 4:38.20 and the 3200m in 10:21.63.
- The Falls City girls are sending a pair of relay teams to the State meet. Their 4x100m team won in 49.36 and the 4x200m team took second in 1:43.33.
- Keandra Johnson (Falls City) ran the anchor on the winning 4x100m team and was the Wild Card qualifier after running 12.28 in the 100m. She was also third in the long jump with a mark of 17-1.75.
TAPPS 2A-6A Boys and Girls
Seguin High School was the host of the TAPPS South Region track meet for 2A-6A that concluded on Friday. Local teams had their most success at the 4A level. New Braunfels Christian Academy won the girls title with 95 points while John Paul II took second with 89 points and Castle Hills was fifth with 58 points. Holy Cross took the boys title with 144 points and Castle Hills finished fourth with 70 points. The San Antonio Christian boys were the top 5A team as they finished fifth with 63 points. The Antonian girls finished second with 109.5 points at the 6A level while TMI's boys were third with 94 points and the Antonian boys were fourth with 70 points.
TAPPS Top Girls
- Annaliese Beninato (Antonian) took the 6A triple jump title with a leap of 36-7.
- Alexandra Johnson (Antonian) took gold in the 3200m with her time of 11:36.71 and distance teammate Micaela Villarreal (Antonian) was the 800m champion in 2:14.04.
- Rylee Higginbotham (John Paul II) won the 4A title in the 100m with a time of 12.19 and added a runner-up performance in the 200m with a time of 26.15.
- Ariel Bosmans (Holy Cross) finished in second place in the discus with a big throw of 120-5.
- The New Braunfels Christian Academy's relay teams took gold in all three events. They won the 4x100m in 49.94, the 4x200m in 1:49.70 and the 4x400m in 4:24.21.
- Lauren Hurst (San Marcos Academy) was a double winner at the 3A level taking the discus with a throw of 100-11 and the shot put with a mark of 31-3.25.
- Sophia Grinstead (Bracken Christian) had two huge performances while winning the 2A discus and shot put titles. She hurled the discus 138-0 and the shot put 42-10.5.
- Ashlyn Prescott (Bracken Christian) won both hurdle events taking the 100mh in 17.46 and the 300mh in 50.38. She was also third in the triple jump with a mark of 32-8.
TAPPS Top Boys
- Wells Peterson (TMI) and John Boland (Antonian) faced off in the 6A 1600m and 3200m. Peterson won the 1600m in 4:22.84 and was second in the 3200m with a time of 9:31.46. Boland had to settle for third place in both events with a time of 4:26.34 in the 1600m and 9:39.46 in the 3200m.
- Beau Bregman (TMI) was the runner-up in the 300mh with a time of 39.22.
- Josh Hoover (Saint Mary's Hall) won the 5A high jump (6-2) and long jump (22-1) and was also fourth in the 100m with a time of 10.80.
- Adrian Rule (San Antonio Christian) took a pair of distance titles winning the 1600m in 4:32.11 and the 3200m in 9:56.21.
- Josue Lerma (Holy Cross) had a productive meet winning the 4A discus with a throw of 145-11. He was also second in the high jump with a clearance of 6-0 and third in the shot put with a toss of 48-9.25.
- Brady Chandler (Geneva School of Boerne) took the pole vault title with a clearance of 13-6. He was second in the 4A 100m crossing the line in 11.07 and third in the long jump with a distance of 20-7.
- Josiah Wentrcek (Castle Hills) was the 4A champion with a jump of 43-2.25 in the triple jump. He was runner-up in the 110mh with a time of 15.80 and third in the 300mh in 41.56.
- Adrian De Los Santos (Holy Cross) led the distance crew winning the 1600m in 4:41.48 and taking second in the 3200m in 10:07.85.
- Jackson Hulse (Castle Hills) swept the hurdle events winning the 110mh in 15.57 and the 300mh in 40.98.
- Dillan Wickham (New Braunfels Christian Academy) was the 100m champion at the 4A level with his time of 10.95.
- Andrew Wright (Lutheran School) was the biggest star of the weekend after winning the 3A titles in the 100m, 200m and 400m. He clocked times of 10.56 in the 100m, 22.25 in the 200m and 47.46 in the 400m.
- Aiden Martinez (Lutheran School) was the runner-up in the 100m and 400m to Wright. He ran 10.84 in the 100m and 51.46 in the 400m. In addition, he finished third in the 200m with a time of 23.55.
- Rye Roberts (San Marcos Academy) took the 3A titles in both horizontal jump events. He went 20-1.25 in the long jump and 44-11 in the triple jump.
