Wall Boys Get Strong Anchor In 1:26.84 4x200 Relay Win

2025 UIL 3A Boys 4x200 Relay

The 2025 UIL 3A Boys 4x200-Meter Relay final was a high-octane showdown packed with speed, strategy, and a thrilling anchor-leg finish that kept spectators on the edge of their seats. With Wall, Hitchcock, and Little River Academy all entering with sub-1:27 credentials, the race promised fireworks-and it delivered.

Wall, last year's third-place team, came in determined to climb higher, returning nearly the same lineup but with even faster performances this season. They got off to a sharp start, matching Hitchcock, the Region 3 champions who had clocked a blistering 1:26.79 in qualifying, at the first exchange. The race tightened considerably at the second handoff, with Little River Academy, Universal City Randolph, and Edna all surging into contention, creating a tightly packed front group.

But it was in the third and final exchange where the separation began. Wall and Hitchcock regained the lead at the final handoff, setting the stage for a dramatic sprint to the finish. Briggs Jones, anchoring for Wall, unleashed an exceptional leg and surged ahead, outdueling Hitchcock's Brian Harris in the closing meters. Wall's winning time of 1:26.84 not only secured the gold but also marked the fastest 3A state meet performance ever, just narrowly missing the class record of 1:26.31 set by Dallas Life Oak Cliff in 2017.

Hitchcock finished a strong second in 1:27.03, barely holding off a ferocious late charge from Little River Academy, who crossed the line in 1:27.14. Just behind them, Universal City Randolph and Edna clocked in at 1:27.23 and 1:27.74 respectively, contributing to one of the deepest and most competitive 3A relay finals in recent memory.

In a race defined by precise exchanges and powerful anchor legs, Wall's execution and composure made the difference. After coming so close in 2024, they now leave Mike A. Myers Stadium as champions-and the new standard in 3A sprint relays.
