2025 UIL 5A Girls 400m
It was a star-studded field that toed the line in the 5A girls 400m dash. In a rare chance to see defending champions go against each other all eyes were on Angel Brefo (Midlothian Heritage), the 2024 5A 400m champion, and Ashtyn Lewis (Iowa Colony), the 2024 4A 400m champion.
Brefo got off to a stupendous start out in Lane 6 and she had Jada Stanford (A&M-Consolidated) out in Lane 8 to push her, but she had to know that Lewis was coming inside her in Lane 5. Coming off the final curve Lewis closed the gap to a stride, but she could never get any closer and Brefo took the title in 52.58.
Lewis ran an outstanding time of 52.75 to take the silver medal and Stanford had an outstanding final 200m to take third place in 54.08.
